Parents

One of the most important things that I can tell you, for your child to achieve academic success is also one of the most basic:

Going to school every day

Attendance = Achievement
96% is deemed as good by Ofsted, if your child just misses one day a fortnight they will only achieve 90%.

Research has shown that your child’s attendance record may be the biggest factor influencing their academic success and in life after education.

Even at this age Attendance matters. Studies have shown that children who miss too many days in Nursery and Reception can struggle academically in later years. At this age they learn valuable social skills, and developing a broader world view.

We all know there are some unavoidable situation that may stop your child attending. Make sure school are aware. Don’t be surprised if they suggest bringing them in later that day.

Doctors and Dentist appointments should be made outside the school day, or returned after their appointment.

If your child has not got a Dentist I recommend you get one, as one of the reasons for absence later on in school life is for the dentist.

New guidelines from the Government has taken away for families to be allowed to take a holiday in term time unless there are exceptional Circumstances.

Any holiday taken in term time could lead to a fixed penalty of £60 to each parent for each Child.

If your child appears upset or is reluctant to go to school, come in and talk to the staff about possible reasons.

Keep updated on school events and announcements. Read the school documents that your child brings home and take note of important announcements and dates, such as back-to-school and parent evenings.

By making your child’s school attendance a priority, you will be taking an important step in supporting your child’s school success, and setting a good example.

Remember — Every day counts!
